Dean Wheatley has joined AVK UK to take up the newly created position of Business Development Manager for the Supa™ fittings ranges, emergency repair clamps and 24/7 repair services.
Dean is tasked with building on AVK UK’s growing strength in mechanical couplers, flange converters, flange adaptors and encapsulation collars. He has hit the ground running by securing the Severn Trent framework contract for mechanical fittings.
Dean is Leeds born and bred. He studied architecture at the Leeds College of Building before joining BM Stainless in its estimating office. After five years, Dean joined heavyside civils merchant, Burdens, and moved into sales and business development:
‘Burdens was probably the first merchant to recognise the value of the utilities market. I launched Burdens’ utilities offer in the North which later became NRG2 through a partnership with Transco.’
Burdens was just the start of Dean’s twenty-year involvement with UK utilities and product distribution. After a spell as Technical Manager at Westwood Pipelines, Dean progressed to becoming Regional Director for Keyline, now part of Travis Perkins:
‘I’ve really enjoyed working in the utilities sector. I’m sure the relationships I’ve built up over the years will be a major help as I seek to grow sales of AVK UK’s Supa™ fittings ranges.’
Outside work, Dean is kept busy by his four kids. The whole family is keen on fitness although lockdown has mainly curtailed this to HIT (High Intensity Training) sessions in the living room! Dean’s passion is Harley Davidson motorbikes and a couple of years ago he fulfilled one of his ambitions by riding a Harley down Highway One on the west coast of the United States.
