Continuing his career with Bryan Donkin, Richard began to progress through the business, promoted to Sales Engineer in 1983, before moving on to Sales Representative, followed by a bold move in 1993, which saw him relocate to Canada as Business Manager.
Returning to his home town of Chesterfield in 1997, Richard was appointed Board Director, guiding the gas business through the transition from British Gas to Transco and finally into the 4 Gas Distribution Networks, it is today.
During his Directorship, Richard successfully headed up all the UK sales activity, including the Water, Waste Water and Fire Protection Sectors, globally. Having made his impact, Richard handed these segments back to concentrate on the gas market.
Richard's determination to ensure customers received the highest levels of service, trusted long-term partnerships and the latest innovations was well known within the industry.
In 2010 he played a key role in developing the new Polyurethane (PUR) coating for the world renown Donkin Series 555 valves. An important innovation for the gas market which removed the need for the customer to wrap the product for corrosion protection, a time consuming but necessary process.
Amongst his many interests outside of the work environment, Richard is a keen drummer who thoroughly enjoys his Jazz music. He keeps himself active playing golf, and taking regular skiing trips, a lesser known fact about Richard, he also holds a glider pilot licence.
Staff at AVK UK gathered to say their goodbyes, enjoying a buffet lunch as Richard delivered his final farewell message. “I would like to say a big thank you to all my colleagues at AVK and associates across the gas industry for making my career in the gas industry so rewarding and enjoyable, I would like to wish you all the very best for the future”
